Project short description

Follow.Me aims at improving quality of life for elderly people suffering from incipient seriously impairing diseases like Alzheimer or dementia. The platform provides an easy to use system that can be leveraged to locate people and automatically provide information when they leave a specific area. Follow.Me will run on any independent (yet programmable) smartwatch offered by the market, to be used by disabled people with easy to use features and a comfortable wearability.

Authorized users, mainly family members and doctors, will have access to real-time data feeds like end-user's location, geofencing areas, speed of motion, biometrical parameters. The Follow.me solution targets both the B2C and B2B markets. The B2C market will address families who have a desire to monitor a loved one. The B2B market includes specialized hospitals and residential care and services companies specializing in home care.

The Follow.Me prototype will be tested through validation with the realistic environment of the University and emergency hospital of Bucharest, as well as the home trials run by both AIT and the Medical University of Vienna. The involved end user organizations will recruit users and agree with them the conditions to participate. The project will involve end users throughout its entire life-cycle and carry out experimentations with two different end user categories: (i) elderly people and patients using the Follow.Me system; (ii) informal and formal caregivers, including clinical experts, carers as well as family members of the patients.
